 A los 19 años de edad, el joven Alfredo Uribe ingresa a trabajar en los laboratorios Clasa como ayudante de editor, ascendiendo rápidamente y por mérito propio a jefe de editores. Más tarde fue cinefotógrafo del noticiero EMA, del general Azcarate, y fotógrafo de prensa de las Presidencias de Alemán Valdez, Ruiz Cortines y López Mateos. En 1957 se inicia como director de fotografía en el primero de los casi 300 títulos de su amplia filmografía, EL TIRO DE GRACIA (1957) de la serie de Pancho Pistolas. Co-fundador del Sindicato de Trabajadores de la Industria Cinematográfica Sección 49 (S.T.I.C.), Uribe trabajó junto a algunos de los más fecundos directores del cine mexicano, como Julio Bracho, Chano Urueta, René Cardona, Ramón Peón, Emilio Gómez Muriel, Roberto Rodríguez, Federico Curiel, Alfredo B. Crevenna, Alejandro Galindo, Ismael Rodríguez y otros.
